Fast Food Dangers
by Abby Nares, '11
As you can see, eating one meal at a fast food restaurant can easily consume a majority of your day's caloric allotment.  Here is a caloric breakdown of some of the most popular fast food items.

Many Americans, and especially teenagers, live on fast food -- one in four Americans visit fast food restaurants daily.  Even the "healthy choices" at these restaurants contain hidden calories.  Given the growing obesity epidemic, we all should be aware of our caloric intake.  For example, women should consume 1500 to 2000 calories a day, while men should take in 2500 calories a day.

McDonald's:

1 Big Mac = 580 calories.

Filet-O-Fish® = 380 calories.

Double Quarter pounder = 740 calories.

Large French fries = 500 calories.

Chicken selects = 660 calories.

M&M’s McFlurry = 660 calories.

Large Triple thick Chocolate milkshake = 1160 calories.

Burger King:

Burger Shots (6): 670 calories

Onion rings medium = 450 calories

Tender grilled chicken sandwich = 640 calories

Angry TRIPLE WHOPPER® = 1360 calories

BK BIG FISH® = 640 calories

Taco Bell:

Taco Salad with Salsa and Shell = 790 calories

Crunch wrap Supreme: 560

Chicken quesadilla = 520

Grilled stuffed burrito = 730

Of course, fast food meals are fine in moderation, but just beware of hidden calories...and maybe hit the gym after you visit one of your favorite restaurants!
