My First Few Week in Gloversville
by Lynn Rau, '10
In my opinion, Gloversville is great! A lot of the kids here don’t really like it, they say it is boring and there is not much to do for fun. But for me it is a whole new world, filled with new experiences and different things.
For those of you who don’t know me yet, my name is Lynn and I am from Switzerland. I've been here for a few weeks now and I will stay until June with Kaitlin Clemente and her family as a Senior at GHS.
I travel a lot but I’ve never been in the USA before, so I was very excited and also a little afraid to come here. Of course I miss my family and friends at home but all the people here welcomed me with open arms and made my start as easy as possible.
I always thought that your culture here is not very different than the one we have in Switzerland. We have the same music, movies, holidays and etc., but there are actually many things that are more different. How Americans handle different things or the school. That really surprised me. I always remember a quote that someone gave me on my way: "It's not good, it's not bad, it's just different!"
I am very happy to be here and I'm looking forward to a great and exciting year here at Gloversville.Have a nice day, and how we in Swiss-German say: Schoens taegli na!
