School Year-Round?

The subject of year round school is one of extreme tension between children and adults. Many arguments for both sides of the bar have been stated, but year-round school is nevertheless something that should be considered carefully.  Even President Obama is considering it an option, and some educators consider it the next academic wave of the future.

Year-round schooling has many advantages.   It allows children to get a better education because the long vacations would be switched for shorter breaks. Students would not have to relearn everything after a long vacation. Many families benefit from the short breaks because it allows them to take multiple vacations in the year instead of just one long one in the summer.

Schools that are not being used in the summer are lacking in efficiency. Many children struggle with boredom, but with year-round schooling they would be occupied with after school activities and recreation that would curb this boredom.

One of the major pros to year-round education is the decrease in child care expenses. Most parents would benefit from this because their child would be spending the maximum amount of time in school and the need for a baby sitter would be reduced.

Though the system of year-round schooling does have its problems, it is still something to consider carefully.

Many students, teachers, and parents have been discussing the new option to have school year-round. Many people believe that year-round school will positively affect students' performances. Many, however, do not see the negative effect year-round school could have on students. This change could cause a lot of stress in a student's life and could unfortunately push students over the edge.

School can be stressful for many teacher and students. With a combination of school, work, sports, and friends, those ten months of school can be overwhelming. That's why when summer vacation comes around, the world feels a little lighter and everyone feels a little happier. For students who remain busy throughout the school year, summer vacation is two months of relaxation. Summer also provides a break between school years. If school was year-round, it would feel as if there were no transition into grades. It would make students feel like school was never ending. Summer vacation is a stress free two month break that is totally necessary.

Many students feel that if school was year-round then skipping school would be a habit more often performed. Also, if school was all year, it would be way too overwhelming for the busy students. This could result in students' grades slipping. School all year would just be too much.

There are many other problems associated with school year-round. Many community centers profit from summer youth camps. If school was year-round, these summer programs would suffer because of the lack of students able to attend. Other areas that would be affected would be bands, choirs, and other extra-curricular programs. These programs could be hurt because of problems scheduling out of school practices and competitions.

Not only do outside of school activities suffer, but the students in the school could suffer. Many public high schools are old and old schools cannot provide air conditioning. When students are uncomfortable, they tend not to focus as easily. This could lead to decreasing grades and attendance.

School year-round has been an option for many schools for a few years. Many people have decided to go against it for very obvious reasons. Twelve months of school is just too much for these busy students. All in all, the idea of twelve months of school is a poor decision and summer vacation is a must.
